Free Financial Help for Drivers
Irregular pay, taxes, debt, and unexpected repairs can make money stressful on the road. These free and low-cost resources can help you and your family get on solid financial footing.

Free Tax Preparation
- IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). IRS-certified volunteers prepare basic tax returns for free for people who generally earn about $70,000 or less, people with disabilities, and limited English speakers. Learn more and find a site on the IRS free tax help page.
- Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE). Free tax help for people 60 and older, often through AARP Tax-Aide.
- Owner-operators: Self-employment taxes and business deductions can be complex. Consider a tax professional who works with truckers, and set aside money from every settlement for taxes.
Credit and Debt Counseling
- National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC). A nonprofit network of certified counselors who help with budgeting, credit card debt, and debt management plans. Visit NFCC.org.
- Be cautious of companies that charge large upfront fees to “fix” your credit or settle your debt.
Emergency Financial Relief
- St. Christopher Truckers Development & Relief Fund. Helps over-the-road drivers and their families with household bills when illness or injury keeps them off the road. Visit TruckersFund.org.
